First day on Maui; this is the beautiful Ulua Beach
This is a perfect spot for snorkelling and if you’re lucky swim with turtles!
The black lava rocks on the coast are so beautiful…
A traditional Hawaiian flower necklace (lei) on a lava rock
My first Hawaiian sunset in Kihei, on the South-West part of Maui Island
Even crabs wanted to see the sunset!
On the way to the Haleakala volcano
The road leading to the top of the volcano, winding in between ancient lava flows…
And this is the huge crater of the Haleakala volcano
The beginning of an amazing walk: 20kms inside of the crater!
An ancient lava flow
There’s almost nothing apart from rocks in the crater. We played the game “something alive” during the hike: the goal, be the first to spot an animal, insects included. It took us 2 hours before we finally saw a fly!
It is completely unreal to hike, it feels like you’re walking on the moon
At some point we were at the limit of the clouds, it looked even more strange
Suddenly the landscape changes and become more green!
And this (apart from a spider) the only inhabitant of the crater: Nene, a goose endemic to Hawaii but sadly endangered
After hiking all around the crater, we started to climb back to the top, in the middle of the clouds. Surreal atmosphere!
Our goal: the fabulous sunset from the top of the Haleakala. Stunning!
The only rule of Little Beach: there is no rule. Even clothes are optionnal. Let go and enjoy!
Incredible fire performance on Little Beach
The Iao needle, at the entrance of the Iao valley. It’s also an historic site as a battle between tribes happened here and lead to the islands unification
It could be used for the next Jurassic Park or Avatar…
On of the many natural pools and waterfalls on the road to Hana, on the East part of Maui Island
The incredible East coast of Maui Island…
Behind this natural protection from the strong current is a lovely beach called Red Sand Beach, created from the erosion of these red cliffs
On the road to Hana, the vegetation is absolutely amazing. Tropical rainforest everywhere!
And another waterfall…
Some really impressive cliff jumping from our tour guide Drew
Still part of the Hana road: this beautiful black sand beach
The solidification of lava and the erosion created a nice arch…
…as well as a huge cave
It really doesn’t look welcoming at all when it starts to rain…
Last sunset on Maui Island, from the shore of Lahaina in the North-West part
