The fate of Hiroshima changed for ever on the 6th of August 1945, when the first atomic bomb ever used during warfare was dropped over the city. Thousands of people were instantly killed and the city was completely destroyed; the exact total of victims will never be known, but it is estimated to be more than 70.000… It was very emotional for me to visit Hiroshima during my trip to Japan in 2018: it's in these kind of places that you realise that human barbarism has no boundaries.
Millions of square kilometers of desert flat as the hand. Red dust as far as the eye can see. A cloudless blue sky, a deadly sun. And right in the middle, a huge ocher monolith: Uluru. It’s not the only natural wonder of the region, Australia’s Red Centre: the rounded peaks of the Kata Tjuta are very close, and the might Kings Canyon a few hours’ drive further north. Not to mention the magnetic beauty of the outback, and this extraordinary night sky…
It’s in Byron Bay that I began my Australian adventure, on the 29th of June 2016, and because of that this small town will always be special for me. I spent two wonderful days there, with a gorgeous sunset and sunrise, a beautiful walk around Cape Byron and my first whales… I explored the inland region during the following days, at the edge between New South Wales and Queensland, where the stunning Springbrook National Park is located.
Tasmania is a fascinating island. It’s a little bit smaller than Ireland, but it has an incredible and unique diversity of landscapes, sometimes similar to Canada, Switzerland or Brittany, but also 100% Australian. I spent two weeks there in January 2018 and came back with hundreds of pictures; here are my favourites!
Beginning at Torquay, 100km south-west of Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road is known to be one of the most beautiful roads in the world… and this reputation is well deserved! For more than 250km until Warnambool, it’s a succession of fabulous landscapes, impressive cliffs and powerful waves, not forgetting the forest, the waterfalls and the koalas of the Great Otway National Park!
