Hiroshima, Japan

The fate of Hiroshima changed for ever on the 6th of August 1945, when the first atomic bomb ever used during warfare was dropped over the city. Thousands of people were instantly killed and the city was completely destroyed; the exact total of victims will never be known, but it is estimated to be more than 70.000, one third of the population… It was very emotional for me to visit the city during my trip to Japan in 2018, with the same feeling as when I went to the 9/11 Memorial in New York or to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews in Berlin: realising that human barbarism has no boundaries.
